Biophilia Speaks on Integrating Nature into Urban Environments
We were thrilled to be a part of TEDxVictoria this year, spreading the message that nature is vital to our mental and physical health and urban environments. We were talking about “biophilia”. What if cities were more “jungle” than “concrete jungle”? What if nature and urban environments were seamlessly integrated?
Planted and naturalized areas present opportunities to find quiet green spaces to rest and rejuvenate. Life in urban centers often causes a feeling of isolation from one another, and of disconnect from the natural world.
Building green public spaces creates an opportunity for community. Bringing nature into our built environment gives us moments to reconnect with nature, and with each other. We believe that the more connected we feel to nature the better stewards we will be of it.
